Elizabeth Wilson has a nice writeup with photos on her blog about Southeast Wooded Pine Island on southeastern Georgian Bay. It’s a property of the Georgian Bay Land Trust, and day visits only are permitted. It’s still on my to-do list. We swung by it last year in our Limestone 24 but we didn’t think the little harbour at the north end (to the right in the photo) was doable for us, and there was enough breeze from the open water that I didn’t want to risk anchoring to the east. But we’ll get there. Elizabeth advises cruisers to consider visiting in their dinghy while anchored around Monument Channel. It’s worth keeping in mind that Gray Island, an undeveloped (no facilities) part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park, is just to the southwest, and could make for a combo visit on the right day in the right conditions.
